The 55th reunion was a lot of fun. There was a good intergenerational
mix of years. Bev Gough was the primary organizer of the event
which included an auction. There was a tired old auctioneer available
who did manage to sell everything. Julie Clark made a lovely quilt
which was auctioned and brought a nice sum of money for the camp.

The
pool was completed just in time for camp. The location of the
pool is to the west side of Kanata house where the craft hut was.
Shelin Pools out of Napanee were great to work with and realized
that our summer season was fast approaching. One of our plumbers,
Scott Trotter suggested that we insulate the exterior wall of
the pool thus preventing any transference of heat from the pool.
The pool facility was an amazing success and it was hugely gratifying
to witness all the campers and staff utilizing the pool throughout
the day and into the evening. Costing $122,000 the camp has a
first class pool that parents are very excited about. The lake
is still being used for Polar Dip, Staff Birthdays and some sweat
dips. Of course the lake is being utilized for canoeing and other
water based activities. See more photos in the gallery.
The new craft hut was created by renovating the old camp bathrooms.
Miraculously, the north wall of the old camp bathrooms was taken
out and another twelve feet added onto the roof line and floor.
Like the previous building, it is open concept so that the campers
can sit and enjoy the view of the lake and watch the main field
activities.

The special place is dedicated to four young people, Jill Pitkin,
Brent and Ross Henderson and Ross Smithrim. Proceeds from their
funerals were designated for camp. Honoring these gifts, the camp
created a sacred place where people can sit and find peace as
they reflect upon the beauty that's before them.

Calling all Alumni and their families. This is an
extraordinary week of absolute fun with high energy activities.
Bev plans a week that has a broad age range of children cared
for by camp counselors who will be doing all sorts of age appropriate
camp activities. While the kids are doing their thing, parents
can be involved in group discussions, relaxation or moving around
camp at ones leisure. Families do everything that regular camp
does including challenging the main camp to a traditional game
of volleyball.
Get your registration forms early and contact Bev Gough to register.
Yes,
camp had a fire. As a matter of fact, we no sooner were recovering
from one huge fire when a week later at about 11:15pm cottagers
on the opposite side of the lake noticed a fire off in the distance.
Not being able to make it out they thought the fire was at the
camp when in fact the fire was on the island. Five hours later,
a group of us and some fire men from Madoc had extinguished the
fire. The fire from the previous week was the result of the neighbour
have a brush pile get away from him. There we were, to the west
of the lodge road at the top of the hill and major fire was headed
our way. The fire fighters decided that they couldn't fight it
any longer and called in the water bomber from Haliburton. Thank
goodness for our local fire fighters and they did an amazing job.

Zufelt Lodge is done and is ready for your rental. Plan a reunion
or other event. This is now an ideal building for 40 people. Those
of you who remember the old lodge won't be able to comprehend
the magnitude of the change. Be prepared for no more rafter climbing.

Every year Al Anthony and Isabel plan an outstanding day event
of cleaning and basic spring clean up. The lunch is incredible.
Every year this event seems to be getting bigger and better. Really,
this is an important event as it gets camp physically ready for
the Outdoor Education program that begins the first week of May.

Several
years ago Cory Nelson and I established an outdoor education program.
Today I'm confident that our OE program is a top level program
where a number of our schools return each spring for an outdoor
experience for their grades 7 or 8. Our counselors, who are university
students provide a high energy program that is truly exciting
and challenging for the students. It has become a rich experience
for the students and for the QML leaders who are assigned to it.
Last years program had schools coming from as far away as Ottawa
to as far as Oshawa to the west. If you want to bring your class,
organize it early and book your May or June date.

is still facilitating the arrival of Mexican children coming to
camp for the first two weeks of the camping season. This program
was originally established by Peter Mouncey. When the children
arrive we fly the Mexican flag alongside of the Canadian flag.
Thsi program is so Mexican children during the first two weeks.
On the last day of camp, the Mexican children challenge us to
a game of soccer and usually beat us. We were very fortunate to
have one of the Mexican youth to make it into the C.I.T. program.
Next year this same person will be a volunteer counselor.
Following the passing of Charlie Ketcheson, the Bay of Quinte
Conference Camping Committee wished to recognize his contribution
to youth by creating this special award. Quin-Mo-Lac has recognized
two Counselor in training candidates. Each of these youth receive
a plaque along with a cheque in the amount of their registration
fee for the CIT program.

The annual fall UCW rally took place at camp on Sept. 9 - 11.
Two hundred ladies invade the camp for a great weekend of fellowship
and fun. On the Saturday night of the event camp counselors are
invited in to put on an evening program. This year was a great
hit. The ladies used the pool extensively and really appreciated
the showers. On the Saturday night of the event, the ladies were
also treated to a beautiful labyrinth experience.
